Resort Overview

English, Spanish, and Tewa—a Native American language—are spoken here. But the universal language in Taos is art.

Taos, in north-central New Mexico, has been a thriving artists’ community since the early 20th century. One early artist in town was Nicolai Fechin, who passionately depicted the local landscape and Native Americans. WorldMark Taos is built on the same property as his former home, which was originally built in 1927 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

While art is pivotal to the area, don’t neglect Taos’ historical museums, interesting shops, and scrumptious barbecues and Tex-Mex cuisine. The area is also a recreational playground, where you can ski, snowboard, hike, bike, or kayak amid a landscape of expansive vistas, castles of clouds, and radiant red earth.
Popular Attractions

Enchanted Circle Tour
This National Scenic Byway circles Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico, at 13,161 feet. The 84-mile tour goes through the towns of Taos, Angel Fire, Elizabethtown, Red River, and Questa. Don't miss stopping along the way to see the works of local woodworkers, tinsmiths, painters, stained glass workers, and sculptors.

Ernest Blumenschein Home and Museum
See where Taos’ art community got its start by visiting the home and studio where American artist and co-founder of the Taos Society of Artists, Ernest Blumenschein, lived and worked. The structure has been maintained much as it was when the artist and his family were alive and is also an accurate portrayal of the lifestyles of Taos artists in the first half of the 20th century. Admission $5.

La Hacienda de los Martinez
Built in 1804 by Severino Martin (later changed to Martinez) this fortress-like building with adobe walls is one of the last few northern New Mexico style, late Spanish Colonial period structures remaining in the Southwest. The hacienda’s 21 rooms and two courtyards give the visitor a glimpse into the frontier life and times of the early 1800s. Admission $5.

Kit Carson Home and Museum
Walk through history by touring the home and museum where American frontiersman Kit Carson lived with his family in Taos for 25 years. His nationally known reputation, experiences, and duties outside of New Mexico also brought generals, traders, mountain men, and congressmen from throughout the country to the Carson home. Admission $5.

Special note: Visit all of the above museums for a combined rate of $10 when you purchase a ticket to see the “Taos Historic Museum Properties.” For $20, you can visit all of Taos’ museums. The discounted ticket is valid for one full year from the date of purchase and is transferable. For details, contact the Taos Chamber of Commerce listed below.
