NATIONAL PARK HOPPING GUIDE
Discover national parks together.
It's time for family road trips.
America's national parks are home to all kinds of outdoor adventures, perfect for the nature-loving family. And your WorldMark resorts are the perfect home away from home for seeing these amazing sights on your next summer vacation.
Share outdoor adventures, both big and small.
The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) cares for 63 national parks, preserving some of the most magnificent and meaningful places in the country. Lucky for you, there are plenty of WorldMark resorts within driving distance to choose from — and they're all Vacation Ready with enhanced cleaning practices to make your family's trip safe and sound.
Plus, there are a number of free national park entrance days that you can plan your vacation around. Coming up later in 2021, you can visit for free on Aug. 4 (anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act), Aug. 25 (the National Park Service birthday), Sept. 25 (National Public Lands Day), and Nov. 11 (Veteran's Day). Mark your calendars and book your favorite resort.
No. 1 summer travel tip:Some national parks have brought back timed reservation systems this summer to prevent overcrowding and keep trails social distance friendly. So check to see if your national park requires or recommends additional planning ahead of time. As of June 1, the only parks with advance reservations required are Acadia National Park in Maine, Glacier National Park in Montana, Haleakala National Park in Hawaii, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Yosemite National Park in California, and Zion National Park in Utah.

Based on 2020 visitor data from the NPS, here are four of the most popular national parks that are also near your WorldMark resorts.

Rocky Mountain National ParkStay at WorldMark Estes Park or WorldMark Rocky Mountain Preserve and discover Rocky Mountain National Park together. This gorgeous mountain range features hiking trails, lakes, waterfalls, wildlife, and scenic drives. Don't miss Longs Peak, the highest point in the park.

Olympic National ParkRound up the family and drive over an hour to Olympic National Park from WorldMark Discovery Bay in Port Townsend, Washington. This huge park has a wide range of attractions from the dramatic rocks of Rialto Beach to magical hikes in Hoh Rainforest, a mossy green wonderland straight out of a fairytale.

Feel the downhill rush. From WorldMark Blaine and WorldMark Birch Bay, it's just over 1.5 hours to the outer reaches of North Cascades National Park. Spring backcountry ski tours are popular among experts, but scenic drives along North Cascades Highway can be just as rewarding. Or for a unique family adventure, sandboard and sled down massive dunes in Great Sand Dunes National Park on a day trip from WorldMark Pagosa.
Share volcanic views.Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is 2 hours from WorldMark Kona. But this day trip is worth it to experience two active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Kea. Be sure to time a hike up Mauna Kea for sunrise or sunset — it's a magical sight to see the sun sinking below the clouds. If you're staying at WorldMark Kihei instead, try Haleakala National Park for crater hikes along a dormant volcano.
Snorkel and swim together.Near your Pompano Beach resorts, Biscayne National Park stretches over the northern Florida Keys, featuring coral reefs, dive sites, and mangrove forests. Or stay at WorldMark Elysian Beach Resort, then head 5 minutes down the road to the ferry for an unforgettable day trip to St. John and see Virgin Islands National Park's picture-perfect beaches and coral reefs.
Try trailblazing hikes.Stay at WorldMark Seventh Mountain Resort or WorldMark Running Y, then drive 2 hours to experience Crater Lake National Park, home to the deepest lake in the U.S. Take in the panoramic views along the historic Rim Drive — or try biking it instead — and stop at one of many scenic trailheads along the way. See national parks with Club Pass.
Make even more memories with Wyndham Club Pass. Some amazing national parks are actually closest to Club Wyndham resorts.
Great Smoky Mountains National ParkThe most popular national park in the U.S. is Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Book your stay at Club Wyndham Smoky Mountains or Club Wyndham Great Smokies Lodge, both just 30 minutes away from the park, then round up the family for amazing sightseeing opportunities. Fall in love with the historic cabin trails at Cades Cove or the peak views at Clingmans Dome.
Grand Canyon National ParkOne of the world's most epic canyons awaits at Grand Canyon National Park. Walk around the edge on the Canyon Rim Trail, hike into the canyon itself, or raft down the Colorado River to experience the Grand Canyon in a whole new way. From Club Wyndham Flagstaff, it's 1 hour, 25 minutes to the Desert View East Entrance or 1 hour, 45 minutes to the popular South Rim.
Channel Islands National ParkClub Wyndham Harbortown Point is right next the marina where you can hop on a boat to the five islands of Channel Islands National Park. California family favorites.
With nine fascinating parks, California has the most national parks of any state in the U.S. And your WorldMark resorts put you within 2 hours of five of them. Road trip, anyone?
Joshua Tree National ParkHike through surreal desert landscapes in Joshua Tree National Park. Just 30 minutes from WorldMark Indio, the park has a fascinating variety of rare plants and animals, including its namesake Joshua Tree — a spikey, spindly oddity that looks to be straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. Try the 0.7-mile Discovery Trail, an easy looping hike designed by local students.
Yosemite National ParkJust 30 minutes from WorldMark Bass Lake, advance reservations are required to drive into Yosemite National Park through Sept. 30. But this stunning national park is worth it. Think thundering waterfalls, giant sequoia trees, and massive granite cliffs — most famously, Half Dome. Apply for a permit to climb it, or drive to Tunnel View to get gorgeous look at it.
Death Valley National ParkFor the epitome of "sun-kissed," drive 2 hours from your Las Vegas resorts to reach Death Valley National Park. This below sea-level desert brings extreme heat and a different kind of sea salt. Visit the Badwater Basin salt flat and its unique salt polygons, then marvel at the Devils Golf Course and the view from Zabriskie Point.
Pinnacles National ParkDrive an hour from WorldMark Marina Dunes to explore Pinnacles National Park together. Geologically, this park was made from volcano eruptions that slid together, forming towering rock spires. This is a smaller park, so the best way to see it is to hike. Try the iconic High Peaks hike for a challenge, or the easier and shorter Balconies Trail to loop through talus caves.
Kings Canyon National ParkKings Canyon National Park is 2 hours from WorldMark Bass Lake — and if you don't mind driving 45 minutes more, you can see Sequoia National Park, too. These side-by-side parks feature some of the largest trees you'll ever see. Drive the General's Highway through sequoia forests, then stroll through Zumwalt Meadow for one of the best day hikes around.
