Greers Ferry Dam
At the foot of Round Mountain in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of north-central Arkansas stands Greers Ferry Dam. Behind the structure dedicated in 1963 by the late President John F. Kennedy glistens one of the foremost recreational areas in the middle United States, Greers Ferry Lake. With over 30,000 acres of water surface, the lake serves as a playground for all kinds of water sports. Eighteen parks around the shoreline provide boat launches, swim areas and marinas.
Greers Ferry Lake
Whether you enjoy boating, skiing, fishing, swimming, picnicking, scuba diving, hiking, sightseeing or just relaxing, Greers Ferry Lake has a place for you. Support facilities are located in 18 parks operated by the Corps of Engineers and local governments. These parks include 22 boat ramps, 16 picnic shelters, 9 marinas, 15 designated swim areas, 3 national nature trails and several hundred miles of undeveloped shoreline.
Sugar Loaf Nature Trail
As Sugar Loaf Mountain is an island, Sugar Loaf Mountain Nature Trail is a foot trail which can only be reached by boat. At any time of the year this trail is not to be missed. Visit in the spring, when wildflowers in the lower elevations are beginning to bloom. Hiking and sight-seeking are at their best during the summer months. During the fall the whole area glows with radiant color as frost-touched leaves take on the flaming hues that foretell the coming of winter. Climb to the 1,000-foot summit and be rewarded with some of the best views in the Ozarks.
